Amanda Markland, RYT

Amanda Markland took her first yoga class in college, after a friend signed up for a class but needed a motivational work-out buddy to accompany her for moral support. She quickly developed a passion for yoga, and has practiced ardently ever since.

A former ballet dancer, Amanda has studied at the Lexington Ballet School, Virginia School of the Arts, the Indiana University Ballet undergraduate program, and the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, where she had the opportunity to learn from numerous renowned ballet dancers and choreographers.

Amanda received her 200-hour yoga certification through internationally recognized school YogaWorks under the instruction of senior teacher Carmen Fitzgibbon and is registered at the 200 hour level through Yoga Alliance. Amanda has studied many styles of yoga, and has done classes and workshops with master teachers ranging from Nicki Doane and Seane Corn, to David Swenson and Kino Macgregor.

Several years into practice, Amanda discovered ashtanga yoga, which was almost like coming home. She has been a dedicated ashtanga yoga student ever since, and is honored to practice in the lineage of Sri K. Patthabi Jois. A Second Series practitioner, Amanda has studied ashtanga extensively under the tutelage of Tim Miller, the first American certified to teach ashtanga yoga by Patthabi Jois. Amanda recently completed 100 additional hours of teacher training covering the Primary Series of ashtanga yoga, and has been given Tim’s blessing to teach it to others. Amanda loves to teach and continues to share the joy she has found through ashtanga yoga with her students. She teaches group and private lessons in the Indianapolis area and leads workshops throughout the state.
